Extensive experience designing, testing, and managing projects which include regulatory requirements for both environmental testing and the design process, including FAA, FCC, MIL-STD and CE requirements including experience with multiple test labs.

  • Summary
    • FCC Part 15 – conducted  and radiated emissions and susceptibility, unintentional and intentional radiators, AC power
    • FAA RTCA/DO-178B – high-reliability software design practices as required by the FAA for airborne products. Experience writing planning documentation, software requirements, authoring standards, setting up configuration management and problem reporting systems, and more
    • FAA RTCA/DO-254 – high-reliability complex hardware (HDL code) design practices as required by the FAA for airborne products. Experience writing planning documentation, requirements, setting up configuration management and problem reporting systems, and more.
    • FAA RTCA/DO-160F – experience selecting appropriate environmental test categories, authoring and conducting tests to the requirements of the FAA for airborne equipment
    • MIL-STD – vibration, shock, thermal and other testing conducted as defined in MIL-STD documentation
    • DoD Spectrum Management – experience with the military spectrum management process, including DD1494
    • CE mark – consumer electronics safety testing as required by the European Union
    • Quality Management Systems (QMS) – authoring high-level QMS documentation that dictates company activities as well as developing low-level R&D processes and procedures that fall within the larger Quality directives. Experience with both ISO 9001 and AS9100

    • Spent extensive time in a test lab qualifying a consumer product which involved several radios (GPS, WiFi, and a dual-band superhet) a microcontroller, FPGA, multiple switching/linear power supplies, and attitude- and heading-sensing system (AHRS)

    • Test plans, including choosing appropriate test categories and how that affects the system safety assessment, as required by the FAA
  • FAA High Reliability Design Requirements (RTCA/DO-178B, RTCA/DO-254, TSOs, etc)
    • Experience with FAA High Reliability Design Techniques (RTCA/DO-178B, RTCA/DO-254) and the TSO process to Design Assurance Level C (DAL C)
    • Experience working with DERs and ACOs, including DER SOI audits and FAA audits
    • Sole author of PSAC, PHAC, and PSCP that passed Stage of Involvement #1 (SOI1) and received concurrence/approval from the FAA Seattle Aviation Certification Authority  (SACO)
